Advantages: Better story than the first, Tucker & Chan work better together, lots of fun and action

Disadvantages: too many racist gags

Ever since I watched “Dragons Forever”, I have been impressed by Jackie Chan’s skills and have watched most of his movies. Lately he has started making his way into major movie circles with movies like “Rush Hour” and “Shanghai Noon”.

I have to admit that I was not too impressed with “Rush Hour”. Although it was a good movie, it still felt like a B Grade (I know, some people will not agree with me). Well, I am happy to say that “Rush Hour 2” changed all that!

Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan are back. This time they are in Hong Kong and Cutter (Chris Tucker) is visiting Lee (Jackie Chan) because he is on his holiday. However, Lee is too busy working on his cases and Cutter is not having much fun.

A bomb rocks the US Embassy in Hong Kong and Lee is called in for the investigation. The Hong Kong police suspect Ricky Tan, a Triad Boss. However, he claims he is not involved. This time there are also women in the story, and not only as pretty little victims to save.

The story I think is much better than the one in the first movie. Jackie Chan might be getting old but he has no trouble showing us he is still one of the best actors of this genre and that his martial arts skills are still amazing! Chris Tucker is even funnier than he was in the first movie and I think that one of the major plusses of this movie is that Tucker & Chan seem to work together much better now.

The movie is absolutely great! You cannot stop laughing for the first 45 minutes. After that the laughs die out a bit as Tucker goes overboard with the gags and the whole “racist” thing, but the movie picks up soon again. The first half of the movie is in Hong Kong and the second part is back in LA. The parts in Hong Kong are the best.

There are too many producers and executive producers to list. This one was directed by the same directors as the last one and they have done a g
reat job.

The Story (Major spoilers)
------------------------

The bomb in the US embassy kills two undercover customs officers. Someone is trying to smuggle something into America. As Lee tries to investigate, another bomb is sent to Lee’s office in the Police Headquarters.

Ricky Tan was the partner of Inspector Lee’s father. However, he set him up. Hence, Lee really wants to solve this case and get Ricky Tan back for what he has done. But Ricky is shot dead by one of his own people (a woman). The woman seems to take over the Triad.

A rich white man by the name of Reign is at the party where Ricky Tan is shot and Cutter suspects he is involved. So they go back to LA and meet another undercover secret agent called Isabella. She does a great job of hiding which side of the law she is on.

Anyway, that’s enough of spoilers, you should watch it if you want more… :-)

-----------------------------------------

Overall, this was a great movie that played to a packed cinema and everyone seemed to have enjoyed it. I watched it with my wife and 4 cousins and everyone wants to order the DVD now! Definitely recommended!
