Advantages: Great fight scenes, Very Funny
Disadvantages: None
Having never seen the first movie I didn’t entirely know what to expect. But I guessed that with Jackie Chan there was going to be some incredible fight scenes. Chris Tucker means that the humour was going to come fast and furious. The sounds like a good movie. But what you get is even better it’s a great movie. The plot involves an explosion in Hong Kong that is investigated by Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) and LAPD Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker). This leads them to a large group of Triads who are running a huge counterfeit money ring fronted by a casino. It means they do James Bond style globe trotting too taking them from Hong Kong to Los Angeles the to Las Vegas, plus has some interesting twist and turns and manages to keep it simple enough to be funny too. The characters are simply superb. The way the film is done one character doesn’t really work without the other. As a team Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker make for hilarious viewing. The contrast between Detective Carter the fastest mouth in the west and Detective Lee the fastest fists in the East are great. They both portray their characters superbly and the fact that Jackie Chan now talks English makes it even better. The supporting cast all do a great job but all the credit has to go to the main stars. The action has a distinctly Jackie Chan feel to it mainly because most of it involves martial arts. The difference is its made funny. It uses objects from the surrounding to beat up opponents. This proves to be quite comical. There is of course the usual dose of guns and explosions just for good measure but the main focus of this movie is the humour. This is a brilliant movie in every way. It has great characters that combine to make excellent action and brilliant humour. I highly recommend this and will be rushing to the video shop so I can catch up on the first. I have heard rumours of a Rush Hour 3. Lets hope so.
