Advantages: Full of fun, great jokes
Disadvantages: Very short
Russell Brand is one of today's biggest known comedians - mostly due to his very 'out-there' style, and his risque style of comedy.
From his mad hair, to his skin-tight jeans, and cowboy boots, he's definately one of the most unusual looking comedian, and definately has his own style!
The 'Doing Life' DVD is his second stand-up DVD, filmed during his live tour. The filmed show is from Hackney, and contains around an hour of footage.
As a fan of Russell previously, I bought this DVD after viewing his first attempt, and found this one to be much the same style. His shows always have a fabulous backdrop, which he doesn't seem to bother much with, instead preferring to stand still at the front of the stage when talking.
His style of comedy is also much the same, he has a great way of interacting with the audience, and speaking as though he's telling a story to friends, instead of a crowded theatre!
I don't like to ruin the show for people, so will not mention any specific jokes, but a couple of the highlights of the show for me, was when Russell goes into the crowd 'for a cuddle', and when he decides to read from the local Hackney newspaper.
The whole show has a brilliant 'improvised' feel to it, he seems to lose track and stop and think every so often, which doesn't ruin the flow too much, and sounds much better than just a run of mesmerised jokes.
A good few laugh out loud moments, although many jokes are definately 18+ (as stated on the DVD), and I did notice a few of the jokes have been used by him before.
My only complaint was that the show was so short - only an hour, which seemed to pass very quickly. Not too bad with the DVD as you have a few extras too, but had I paid over the odds for a ticket to this sell-out tour, I think I would have been a bit put-off - not great value for money.
As mentioned above, a few nice little extras are included on the DVD, including an interview with Jonathan Ross, which is quite amusing.
Overall, I would definately recommend this DVD to any comedy fans, Russell Brand has a great way of describing his life and funny situations, that's takes you along on the ride with him, and makes you feel as though you really understand what he went through!
Nice, lighthearted stand-up comedy, well worth a watch!
Summary: A great stand-up DVD from a world-class comedian
