... it could possibly get. Despite an over-American feel to it, it is certainly timeless. Dudley Moore and John Lithgow both steal the show, while Santa Claus plays second fiddle. The children, who pretty much stopped acting after the film was made, are wonderfully talented and maintain a careful grip on the storyline, preventing it from slipping into the schmaltzy, over-sentimental rubbish it could have become. The storyline is somewhat non-important and, even after a dozen viewings, I was unable to tell you exact...more

Premium Review Santa Claus - The Movie (DVD): I know it's not Christmas or anywhere near, but...... (767 words)

The tale and legend of Santa Claus is one that sits withe everyone both young and old as a wonderful feeling around Christmas. The notion of a large old man with a huge beard, hearty laugh, red and white costume and herd of reindeer pulling a sleigh through the air to give kid their presents on Christmas Eve is magical, and has spawned many films telling stories of old Saint Nick. This offering, Santa Claus The Movie, was released in 1985, and focuses just as much on the travels of one of Santa's elves as much as Santa himself. It is a film that was true to my heart as a child when it was released, and still is now. I watched it this Christmas just gone with ...  Read the complete review

I KNOW THIS IS UNDER THE WRONG PRODUCT. I HAVE EMAILED THE DOOYOO TEAM TO HAVE IT REMOVED. I am a massive film fan, and I absolutely adore going into one of the local cinemas to catch up on the latest films! Last year, my friend and I went in to see the Christmas film of 2006 (Santa Clause 3) on the 1st of December, to get us into the festive spirit. This year, we decided to carry on this new tradition, so we checked up on the latest films, and one in particular caught our attention; Fred Claus! It seemed like the perfect Christmas film for us to see, and the trailer we watched for it made it out to be very comic and amusing. So it was decided; at ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Santa Claus - The Movie (DVD): Christmas time - 80's style! (731 words)

At one time this was my favourite film ever, let alone my favourite Christmas film. My dad had took me and my younger brother to the pictures to watch this and it has had a resounding and lasting effect on me. The film I will now review is "Santa Claus - the movie". Many, many years ago, when I was a child, the biggest luxury that was bestowed upon us by our father was a trip to the cinema, the fact that my parents didn't have a great amount of funds available to them at the time never stopped them from making every activity we undertook into an adventure, Christmas was always the biggest adventure of them all! One of the many ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Christmas in June (1832 words)

As a young girl christmas eve would be spent excitedly waiting night time to come, not just because santa would be coming to leave me lots of lovely presents but because it would mean taking part in one of my favourite traditions- sitting down with my parents and siblings to watch Santa Claus the movie. Out would come all the snacks and a hot chocolate and we'd pile onto the sofa to put in the video(or frequently watch it on tv) now as a grown up i carry on the tradition with my own children and still watch it every christmas eve. Now some people reading this review will be wondering why on earth im reviewing a christmas film in June. Well i'm a sentimental ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Santa Claus - The Movie (DVD): Ho Ho Ho It's A Merry Christmas Film (762 words)

If you are looking for a great family christmas look no further than this great little tale. Although it was released in 1985 and was panned by the critics, it has really stood the test of time. Not that there has really been that much good opposition really, although I do quite like the National Lampoon attempt. The film was directed by a guy called Jeannot Szwarc who also directed fims such as Jaws 2 and Supergirl. And I think he has done a good job here capturing that xmas magic, and what it is all about. The story begins with a heartwarming tale of how Santa Claus as we know him now began, and how he was chosen and why. He and his wife are then magically ...  Read the complete review
