Advantages: Good action scenes
Disadvantages: Weak plot premise
I was not exactly convinced that I would like a war film and I must admit that parts of this film failed to grab me but it was a lot better than I expected it to be.
The film is set in the second world war during the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach which is where the American forces sufferred most of their losses during the landings.
Cast List
Tom Hanks ... Captain John H. Miller
Tom Sizemore ... Sergeant Mike Horvath
Edward Burns ... Pvt. Richard Reiben
Barry Pepper ... Pvt. Daniel Jackson
Adam Goldberg ... Pvt. Stanley Mellish
Vin Diesel ... Private Adrian Caparzo
Giovanni Ribisi ... T-4 Medic Irwin Wade
Jeremy Davies ... Cpl. Timothy P. Upham
Matt Damon ... Private James Francis Ryan
Ted Danson ... Captain Fred Hamill
Paul Giamatti ... Sergeant Hill
Dennis Farina ... Lieutenant Colonel Anderson
Matt Damon plays Private Ryan wh is need of saving and to be honest who woul not volunteer to save Matt Damon, he is one of four brothers however the other three have all dies and their mother is due to get the sad news on all of them so the military decide to send a special team led by Hanks to find him in all the chaos and bring him back safely to his mother.
The premise of the film to be honest is a bit weak but by the end I did actually find myself caring whether he is saved or not. There is an impressive cast to the film and it was strange seeing Ted Danson in a non comedy role while Vin Diesel was his uausl eloquent self, Hanks actually did a better job than I expecvted in the lead role. For me ths is ot the classic many have made it out to be, certainly the boyfriend enjoyed it a whole lot more than I did but the I guess it is more a blokes movie.
Summary: OK war film for me.
