Advantages: Back to the old antics of the jigsaw
Disadvantages: Clearly more concerned with profit than continuity
Stars - Scott Paterson, Costas Mandylor
Plot - Special Agent Peter Strahm is back to trying to stop the jigsaw killer in the 5th part of this film sequence. Jigsaw is now dead but have the killings really stopped? More killings, more gore and more awful games.....
Whats it like - I dont want to say too much about the plot because theres not much point watching it if you know too much. Im a huge Saw fan but this didnt really cut it for me. The victims chosen this time around are under a very weak premise, the games arent as thrilling as they used to be (maybe we are all getting a bit immune?). The thing that bothered me the most was a HUGE continuity error in my opinion. Do not read the next paragraph until you have watched the film............
*plot spoiler* how can Hoffman imitate jigsaw's style of killing BEFORE he apparently starts doing it? The man whose game was the barbed wire, we were led to believe, was one of jigsaw's first killings, yet Hoffman helped with that game. Therefore surely you cannot imitate a killer who has not killed yet?
ANYWAY it just wasn't up to scratch and I really wish they had stopped making this chain of films after number 3. It has completely lost its edge and the whole 'principle' behind the killings has been left behind. Sadly though, the ending lines us up clearly for Saw 6
Summary: Die hard Saw fans will enjoy this, everyone else shouldnt bother

- 26/06/09 Sorry but there isnt much of a review there and any kind of major spoiler shoudnt be in a review.
Easy way to look at it is if you think you have to put a spoiler waring in then whatever you have written shouldnt be there at all |
