Advantages: A few inventive traps

Disadvantages: Lacks suspense, twists or any menace

Jigsaw's deadly game continues in the fifth film of the Saw franchise. Someone is continuing Jigsaw's deadly game and two cops investigating are heading on a collision course with each other when the truth is unveiled.

In theory this film should have been good. The reason for this is what I've thought of the previous films so far. The original Saw was genius, it was clever, it was new, it was inventive and had one of the best endings to a film ever! Saw 2 seemed like a Saw film for the sake of a Saw film, there didn't seem to be any need for it. Saw 3 was back on track, a twisty turny storyline that had me guessing until the end. Saw 4 was pants, it didn't make a whole lot of sense while there was a 4th movie and they seemed to be carrying on the franchise just for the sake of it. Therefore as so far I've thought every other Saw film has been good then this one should have been back on track. It wasn't!

Tobin Bell still manages to reprise his role as Jigsaw through a series of flashbacks. This film says that all the pieces will finally come together and the big masterplan will be unveiled. I didn't find that the case at all, the film kept flirting back and forth through time bringing in extra characters who may or may not have been helping out Jigsaw. There was just no need for this film. The makers of this film seem desperate for the franchise to continue no matter what the cost! The main threat died in the third film, that should have been the end but they thought, why not just make up another character who can continue Jigsaw's work and we can make a few million more with maybe another 3 movies! Any threat, menace or clever plot twists disappeared with the third movie.

The 6th movie is currently playing on the cinema, I don't think I'll bother wasting my time with that one, the franchise has gone down hill and it's struggling to make it's way back up.

Summary: Don't watch past Saw 3 or you'll be disappointed

I watched Saw 1 and 2 and didn't bother with the rest as I find them too disturbing xx

Five wasn't so good but there's plenty more to come - Saw 7 in 3D and Saw 8 commissioned already.

I think the first four were brilliant even if number four maybe did push things a little far. Number 5 & 6 are both awful though.
