It's a little hard to believe that there is anybody who has not seen Scrooged, it's one of those films that turns up each and every year about this time. If you have never seen this specific version of the Scrooge tale (A Christmas Carol) you'll no doubt be exactly aware of how the story goes. During December TV airs it, shops stock it and 9 out of 10 Christmas's it ends up back in retails top 20 charts, there is a strong chance that someone you know will end up with this for Christmas. Frank Cross (Bill Murray) is a TV executive with more than a casual similarity to Ebenezer Scrooge, ironic I guess that this year's big TV project for Frank is a live variety ... We all know the tale of Scrooge right? Miserable old git spoils Christmas for everyone with his curmudgeonly old ways (Mrs SWSt says this sounds like me, but just ignore her) before visitations from three ghosts get him to see the error of his ways? And whilst lots of versions of A Christmas Carol have been filmed over the years, few have tried to update it as a modern day comedy. Given his populist appeal, if Charles Dickens were alive today, the chances are he'd write for television and film, rather than long, boring old books... and if he filmed A Christmas Carol, he might well cast Bill Murray as the main character. Which is where Scrooged gets ... Read the complete review

Plot: Bill Murray plays Frank Cross, a miserly grump. One christmas eve he is visted by three ghosts who show him the true meaning of Christmas and what will happen if he doesn't change his ways. A modern (ish) re-telling of Charles Dickens 'A Christmas Carol', this is a laugh a minute comedy starring Bill Murray. It's the very epitome of an 80's comedy, and has a very similar style of direction which is seen in a lot of films around this time. Although it appears to be a comedy it is actually quite a heartwarming story (ultimately) and is a perfect feelgood movie to watch around Christmas time. It is the same basic story as Charles Dickens told, but it is ... Read the complete review

~~~Scrooged~~~ A modernisation of the Charles Dickens classic: A Christmas Carol. Francis Xavier a conceited and selfish tv executive has trodden on many people to become successful and rich. This is probably my favourite 'Christmas carol' type tale. That said, my daughter nearly freaked out she first watched it since there's an early scene with Santa holding a machine gun !! That scene however highlights Frank's sense of Christmas spirit and all round personality perfectly. This is a modern day version of Scrooge with all the typical characters, Frank ( played by Bill Murray ) plays the traditional Scrooge lead and Claire ( played by Karen Allen ) takes the role of Frank's lost love. This film has the other traditional characters such as Grace ( Frank's employee ) and her son who takes on the traditional Tiny Tim role, plus the three Christmas ghosts and ...
