There is only one reason that I can think of to explain the lack of popularity of Seinfeld in this country, and that s visibility. Had it been on Channel 4 during the 90s on Friday nights at 9pm (the show ran in the US from 1989 to 1998), it would have been up there with Friends or Frasier in terms of popularity. But for some reason, BBC2, who had the rights, saw it fit to show it on the midweek graveyard shift after Newsnight. Why???? What a criminal waste of a great sitcom. It s almost impossible to sell the world s greatest sitcom to a Seinfeld virgin. It s essentially a show about nothing. And of all the nine seasons of Seinfeld that ran on American TV throughout the 90s, season 4 is the one that deals with how to sell a show about nothing to network television.
