September Dawn has plenty of prime cinema potential in it, being based on the Mountain Meadows massacre, which took place on September 11, 1857, and involved a train of immigrants who were attacked by a group of militia men, resulting in the deaths of well over 100 men, women and children. The treatment dealt here though was very controversial upon its release, due to its anti-Morman slant which is said to err past realistic depiction towards exploitative. The film foregrounds the "real" content with a fictional love story, with Emily Hudson (Tamara Hope), a local girl falling in love with a Mormon, Jonathan Samuelson (Trent Ford), just as tensions ...
