Relenting she takes his details puts them on a five dollar bill and buys something from an outside vendor and vows that in a book (Love in the Time of Cholera) she'll put her name and phone number in it that night and take it to a used book store. Her feeling on it all is that if its meant to be it will be and that eventually the note will fall into her hands or he'll spot the book. As a last ditch attempt she goes into a hotel and he gets in one lift and her in another and she tells him to...more

I rarely come across a film that I instantly fall in love with and most of my friends would, on the sly, tell you that I’m impossible to please when it comes to films. It’s not that I don’t enjoy watching them it’s just I seem to always be able to find fault with either the plot line, the amount of comedy, the length, etc. It must be something about my personality! However a few years ago now I was looking to rent a film from my local Blockbuster to keep me entertained for the night and came across Serendipity. It wasn’t a film I’d ever heard of before but it had a couple of good actors / actresses in it and so I thought it was worth a watch. The front cover ...  Read the complete review

There are plenty of chick-flicks out there, one just as predictable as the next, but there are a few that hold a certain charm about them for being that tiny bit different. Step forward Serendipity. A romantic comedy which is based all around the idea of fate finally bringing things back together. In the rush of Christmas shopping, Jon (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) meet while trying to buy the same pair of cashmere gloves. Instantly they notice a spark between them, and Jon asks Sara to go out with him that evening. Sara refuses, but she finds herself drawn back to him again, and it is then that she agrees. At the end of the evening, Jon gives Sara ...  Read the complete review

This 2001 rom-com stars competent leading man John Cusack and Kate Beckinsdale as his object of affection. They play Jonathan and Sara who meet in New York at a clothes sale. Attracted to one another they spend a wonderful evening together. Sara however, cautious because of her commitment to another man, insists that they should let fate decide if they are meant to keep seeing one another. She conducts a series of silly tests in which she wants to see if chance will keep pushing her and Jon together. Although they pass these challenges they are accidentally seperated and then spend the next five years or so trying to find each other again. It is this quest that dominates  Read the complete review

Serendipity (DVD): Destiny's Children? (924 words)

Well, it seems my film reviews are just like buses – none for ages, then two come along at once. You see, when we did the old video-hiring thing for my birthday celebrations, we decided to rent out two. Gosford Park was the one we both fancied seeing, Serendipity was my choice. Hubby was very non-committal about watching this one, it being a ‘RomCom’ (romantic comedy) and all. In fact, he suggested I watch it with the kids today while he was at work. But the kids annoyed me, so it was that Hubby and I sat down at 8:30pm and watched it together. It’s strange really. Gosford Park has a wonderfully experienced cast, beautiful ...  Read the complete review
