I've probably seen this film enough times now to recite it word for word, yet I don't get bored of it! It's a film adaptation of the 1950's series 'The Phil Silvers Show', and revolves around the happenings in and around Fort Baxter. Steve Martin plays the lead character, Master Sergeant Ernest Bilko, who seems clueless to the ways of the army and insteads focuses his and his company's time on gambling and fun. Camp commander Colonel Hall, played by Dan Aykroyd, is often seen to know of Bilko's schemes, but tends to forgive him due to the amount of compiments Bilko pays him and his wife! What an absolutely great and funny film! Steve Martin does not let you down. The film is full of funny moments and comic ideas that you can see coming from a mile away but still do not fail to amuse you. The film is based around an army base where Bilko is the sergeant of the motor department. When a new recruit comes to join the department he is extremely enthusiastic and ready to become the 'perfect soldier'. However Sergeant Bilko does not have the same enthusiasm for the army way of life but rather for fun, frolicking and lots of gambling. His whole team are also very enthusiastic about the gambling but do not have a clue how to be a proper army regiment. ... Read the complete review
