Seven Pounds (Seven Pounds (DVD))

Advantages: Will Smith's powerful performance and the plot's general premise Disadvantages: The painfully slow pace, which significantly reduces tension, making the ending look a lot worse Will Smith gives a powerful and inspiring performance, which is why he deserves to be one of the highest earning actors of all time. He can handle comedy films like "Men in Black" and "Hitch" whereas he is also outstanding when it comes to dramatic performances like he showed us in "Ali" and "The Pursuit of Happyness." In "Seven Pounds," he once again proves that he is multi-talented. The film follows a gripping plot. Absolutely nothing is given away in the trailers (this is not necessarily a very good thing - sometimes we're just not interested enough) and even in the beginning of the film, the audience is forced to question just what the hell the protagonist is planning. Therein lies the film's main problem. By holding on to this mystery for far too long, the film loses a lot of the tension that it has worked so hard to build up. The pacing feels slightly pretentious for its own good and because of this generally dull atmosphere, the final twist is a lot less effective and moving which is a shame. Summary: Good but be prepared and patient |
