7 Years in Tibet is the story of 2 Austrian mountain climbers Heinrich Harrer and Peter Aufschnaiter, who travel to the Himalayas during World War 2 to reach the worlds highest peaks. Since India was a British Colony at this time they are arrested and held by the British in a prisoner of war camp. They escape from the prisoner of war camp and head to the Tibetan Holy City of Lhasa through the Worlds most inhospitable environment. The main character is played by Brad Pitt and is very selfish, arrogant and generally not a very nice person while Peter is a more well-rounded nice individual from the outset. When they eventually reach Lhasa and smuggle themselves ... Read the complete review

Heinrich Harrer is a self centred man, he is also a national hero for his prowess as a mountaineer, and as such has travelled to the Himalayas to conquer one of its peaks, on behalf of Austria and its Nazi government. He is also running away from a loveless marriage and the fear of fatherhood, he is running away from himself more than anything. So begins Seven Years in Tibet. As a member of the national expedition we see Harrer (Brad Pitt) for what he really is, an arrogant loner filled with dreams of self glory rather than the team work needed to conquer the mountain. The expedition fails and to make matters worse, on their return to the foothills of India ... Read the complete review

SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET, directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, tells the true story of Heinrich Harrer, who in 1939 leaves Austria to climb a mountain in the Himalayas. Through various circumstances he ends up in Tibet, in the forbidden city of Lhasa. Whilst there he makes friends with the young Dalai Lama. Brad Pitt is something of a ‘pretty boy’ and as such is extremely suitable to play Harrer – blond hair, blue eyes, and good looking, he is Aryan supremacy as the Nazis liked it. In addition to looking the part though he also portrays Harrer the man very well. Although I didn’t think he would be able to handle the accent, I was pleased to see ... Read the complete review

Seven Years in Tibet tells the story of a man and his tranformation. In 1939 Heinrich Harrer (Brad Pitt) leaves his pregnant wife behind in Austria to go on an expedition to the Himalayas. When the war begins, the native Austrian is taken prisoner by the British and spends some time in a prison camp. Eventually, he manages to flee as does Peter Aufshneiter, former expedition leader and something like Harrer's pet hate. Harrer manages to make it to Tibet and there meets the young Dalai Lama. Throughout the story Harrer changes. He starts off a pretentious, cocksure man fleeing from responsibility. Politically he is close to Hitler's National ... Read the complete review
