Advantages: Good Price, Amusing, Decent Transfer

Disadvantages: No Extras

This Friday sees the return of Sex and the City to our TV screens in a brand new slot. So with this in mind why not re-visit previous seasons to get yourself in the groove. Especially as there's a good deal currently on the DVD?s and Video's online and on the high street.

This show is always fun, fruity and enjoyable. As I said in my opinion on Season 3, you don't have to be a woman to enjoy it. It's perfectly fine for blokes to find it interesting and entertaining. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it puts you in touch with your feminine side but it certainly makes you more female orientated. It?s an education into a woman's psyche. But maybe I'm just making excuses and I just like smart comedy.

Season 4 picks up where Season 3 left off. Carrie is still having trouble committing to a relationship, now she has both Aidan and Mr Big in the picture. Meanwhile Charlotte is still not finding marriage everything she dreamed of. Her husband Trey still has problems getting it up and she has to resort to fantasy instead. Miranda finds out she's pregnant by her ex Steve even though he was meant to be infertile. Meanwhile the man-eater Samantha takes things to a whole new level as she indulges in a lesbian relationship. This is probably one of the best subplots in the series so far and certainly produces the most laughs. Once again we are left shouting at Carrie to finally commit to Aidan because he's so damn great and we wonder just what the hell is wrong with Trey, does Charlotte just no do it for him?

This boxset contains all 18 episodes of the season on 3 DVD's. Once again the show is not shown in widescreen so you get standard 4:3 transfers. As with Season 3 the look of the show is a bit softer than the TV broadcasts. As I've previously said this probably has something to do with the NTSC to Pal conversion. Still the show looks pretty decent although sometimes you hope for a bit more sparkle on the
screen. The Dolby surround track is also adequate, you don't expect nothing more and this does its job well.

As with Season 3 there are some nice menus on show with some good episode guides. Once again though there is a distinct lack of chapter selection, I know it's only 30-minutes an episode but some effort would still be nice.

The extras on Season 3 were frankly rubbish so you'd think that you'd get something a lot better on this. Sadly you'll be left wanting, as there's nothing here whatsoever. No production notes, biogs or lame adverts. This set was retailing for around £35, I wouldn't have paid that but the current deals mean you can pick up this set for under £18 at the likes of Amazon. That is a good deal and one that makes me forget the lack of extras on show. The only improvement with this season is that the packaging is a lot better than Season 3.

So if you're fan then now is the time to buy, just don't expect insights into the making of the show and commentaries as you won't get them.

I am currently being treated to an episode of this per night and am thoroughly enjoying it. Not even sure what series it is but does it matter with this much entertainment?!
