Sex and the City - The Movie

I was a big fan of the show and was gutted when it ended. Even though they still show repeats on the comedy channel, I still bought some of the DVDs.

For anyone who never watched Sex and the City it's about single woman who live in New York. They meet up every day either for breakfast, lunch or dinner in a trendy bar or restaurant describing every detail of their last sexual encounter - yes this is for the adults only.......

Carrie Bradshaw is played by Sarah Jessica Parker. She is a freelance writer who writes a weekly article for the New York Times titled Sex and the City. She lives and breathes her designer clothes and Jimmy Choo shoes. She has been in an on off relationship with "Mr Big" even when he was married to someone else for a short time. Her friends have told her he is a waste of time, but she always goes back to him.

Charlotte York is played by Kristin Davis She is a hopeless romantic and has always wanted to get married and have children. She was married to Trey, divorced Trey and through the divorce, got to keep the very luxurious apartment on Park Avenue. Through her divorce she met Harry, her divorce lawyer, whom she later married and adopted a baby girl.

Miranda Hobbs is played by Cynthia Nixon. She is a lawyer married to Steve, whom she met in a bar where he worked. They have son named Brady. Miranda is always under pressure with having to look after the baby and keep up her career and has a housekeeper to help. Poor Steve normally ends up on the receiving end of Miranda's outbursts, but put up with it anyway because he loves her, aawwww

And then there's Samantha Jones played by Kim Cattral. She is the CEO of her own PR company and organises parties and always gets to jump the queue at the latest new restaurant opening. She is sex mad, has several one night stands and is happy to tell ALL the details. At the end of the last series she was going out with Smit, a young model whom she turned into a star.

So in this film. Carrie and Mr Big are back together and are planning the wedding. Miranda and Steve are having relationship problems, Samantha and Smit are living in Los Angeles and Charlotte and Harry are raising their daughter. Although they are going through different challenges, the four girls are still best friends through it all.

I was impressed by Jennifer Hudson who plays Louise, Carrie's new assistant.

Without giving away the plot there are funny bits, bits that made me cry, nice outfits, some good background music and good New York locations for the outdoor scenes. My own favourite clips are "bikini wax", New Year, the "romantic" Valentines Day dinner and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Although I watched this at the pictures I knew it was a film I was going to buy on DVD and watch again and again - just like Grease and Dirty Dancing. I bought the DVD for £7 from Woolworths before they sadly closed down.

This is a typical funny, romantic, uplifting girly film which is ideal for a night in when the telly's rubbish. I especially like watching this with a bottle of rose and chocolates.
