Advantages: funny and gives us less lessons at the same time

Disadvantages: None

It's not often that you see a comedy that rams home meaningful lessons about life, not only that but doing well with great comic timing and witty one liners, but Shallow Hal definatley delievers. The taglines of 'finding true love is worth the weight' and 'the biggest love story ever told' may bring a few laughs, the under lining message of beauty is only skin deep, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder are really pushed to the forefront of the movie.

It sees shallow, and slightly arrogant, Hal Lawson and his equally shallow friend Mauricio, two men who only see womens outer beauty and seem to think that they themselves are gods gift to women, despite being fat and largely unattractive themselves. By a twist of fate/or strock of luck, Hal gets stuck in a lift with Tony Robbins, the famous life coach, who hypnotizes him so that he only sees a womans inner beauty.

It is because of this that he falls for Rosemary (Gwyneth Paltrow), who to Hal is slender and beautiful because of her kind and generous nature, but is in real life mobidly obsease. His friend Mauricio is shocked at his friends new taste in women, and tracks down Robbins to find the 'cure' or the trigger phrase 'Shallow Hal wants a gal'. When Hal hears the trigger phrase he immediatley snaps out of the trance and at first doesn't recognise Rosemary. After going on a date with Jill, Hal's beautiful neighbour who turned him down because of his shallow nature, on inadventinatley ignore Rosemary when she say hello.

Finally, realising his love for Rosemary, Hal tries to talk to her but after refusing and leaving to try and join the peace corps, Hal has to go to drastic measures to win her back.

Directed by the Farelly brothers, the same brothers who brought you theres something about mary and dumb and dumber, bring both comedy, romance and valuable life lessons to the big screen with supprising grace and finese that i didn't think was capable but Shallow Hal certainly proves me wrong and is a thoughbly enjoyable film, with a barrage of hilarious comic moments and witty one liners.

Summary: a good funny film

There's no need to reveal quite so much of the plot - you could cut a lot of the summary.
