Advantages: Lighthearted comedy
Disadvantages: Degrading to plump people
The story is about Hal Larsen (played by Jack Black) who visits his local jaunts looking for attractive women. The trouble is - Hal is extremely shallow and not particularly good looking himself. He only goes for good-looking women and has no regard for personality. One day he bumps into a self-help guru called Tony Robbins in a lift who changes his life. He hypnotises Hal so that he only sees the beauty within the person. Hal now looks at women for what they are and not what they look like (although he is not aware of this!!) Hal goes to the local clubs with his friend who becomes rather alarmed as Hal is suddenly chatting up all the unattractive females and loving it!! Hal thinks he is gaining the attention of all these "lovelies" and thinks he has become gods gift to women. Enter Gwynneth Paltrow. She plays a larger than life lady called Rosemary who Hal is instantly attracted to. He only sees a slender blonde. Hal constantly reassures her how beautiful she is and cannot understand why she has a total lack of self confidence in herself. His friend tries to explain to him that she is fat but Hal cannot see this. He thinks he has landed himself a real stunner. Eventually the truth comes out and the spell is lifted. Hal now sees how large his "stunning" girlfriend Rosemary really is. I don't want to give the story away, but there is a happy ending. This film is written, produced and directed by the Farrelly Brothers who have also produced the films Dumber and Dumber and Something About Mary. If you like their previous flicks you will probably enjoy this. A few laughs along the way as the relationship develops make this a totally lighthearted romantic comedy, however if you are a bit on the plump side it could be a bit degrading. Would recommend it if you find yourself at a loose end one night and have nothing else to do. Thanks for reading.

- 26/04/03 I agree with ziggybaby, however, I guess on the other hand, plump people may appreciate it as it conveys them all as beautiful lovelies on the inside. What I didn't understand was how come he didn't see any of the people he's known all his life in a different light?! Now there's one to think about!
