This film should be a cornerstone of any serious Westerns collection that you have. Its up there with High Noon, The Searchers and Red River as a masterpiece of western myth making. The plot is pretty basic. Shane (Alan Ladd ), a world weary drifter with a violent past, wanders into the lives of a group of homesteaders fighting to keep their farms from the clutches of the local Mr Big. Mr Big wants them out so that his cattle can enjoy free range on the prairie. This is a film which I had recommend to me as I had enjoyed a similar one before. I have to say that I was quite impressed with it. The film stars Alan Ladd who plays the role of Shane, he is a gunfighter who stumbles across a small homestead where he is offered food. He manages to befriend the family, Joe, Marian and their son Joey after he helps them stand up to a cattle baron, Rufus Ryker. Shane is offered work with the family and soon find himself at home with them. Things go bad for the family when Rufus tells them and all the other homestead owners that he has got a new massive cattle contract so he wants their land. The families are not ...
