I wasn't really expecting anything from this animated movie. Truth be told, I am not a fan of drawn creatures breathing life on the screen but one has to endure it when daughter and niece are big enough to demand their own kind of stuff to watch. It's not really a bad concept since a lot of animated movies were big on the box office and they are made bearable and very entertaining through their impressive CGI's and modern tales. Their flaws are easier to forgive and ambitious plots always seem doable. Plus, food chain stores keep bombarding you with movie merchandise it's really hard to get away from them. Shark Tale is a wet and wild adventure under the sea. ... Read the complete review

note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room DreamWorks Animation are always seen as second place to Pixar in the computer-generated animation world, but they still crank out the odd good film that can compete with them, chiefly the Shrek series. Shark Tale was an effort of theirs in 2004, with a strange-looking CGI fish version of Will Smith as the protagonist. While fun, it reminds us just how sophisticated and layered the films from Pixar really are. The film revolves around a young fish, Oscar (Smith), who boasts that he has killed the son of a mob boss in order to earn favour with the boss's enemies, despite having done nothing ... Being a HUGE fan of cartoon/animated movies, I must say I was actually a little disapointed whilst watching Shark Tale. Maybe I had too high expectations of the film, due to an impressive cast (including Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Will Smith, Angelina Jolie, Renee Zellweger and Jack Black) and a clever story line. What spoiled it mainly for me was the cheesy, cringy, soft hip-hop style music, just slapped in at random places throughout the film. It was just tacky. I know I'm being pedantic, and for most sane people, this would not even be an issue. But it was for me!! It put me off the film! Also, for me, I like to keep my 'kiddy' films ... Shark Tale the film features Oscar who is a small fish working at the local whale wash as a tongue scrubber. He finds that he has a big problem when he cannot afford to pay back a large some of money which he owes. His friend Angie sells her treasured pearl to get him the money he needs but silly Oscar ends up gambling it away. Oscar is taken away from the town which they live and is tied up and left as shark food. Luckily for Oscar the shark who arrives first is Lenny who is a vegetarian shark and is trying to prove to his family that he is brave but he just cannot bring himself to eat Oscar so frees him instead.
