Although I have never seen High School Musical, when I saw this film advertised I liked the look of it and thought it had a great story line. I wasn't wrong and surprisingly I enjoyed it a lot and had the songs stuck in my head for a long time after it ended.
The film begins with Sharpay singing at a charity event where she is spotted by talent scouts and given the opportunity for her and Boi (her dog) to star in a new Broadway musical. After begging her parents to let her go she sets off for a luxurious life in New York City but all is not as it seems. The penthouse does not allow dogs so she has to find alternate accommodation and she meets two rivals fighting for the space on the same stage she will be on.
As Sharpay's favorite colour is pink the film is also very pink and probably not one boys would enjoy, nethertheless it is a brilliant family film.
I really enjoyed watching the singing in the film as she has a great voice with my favorite songs being the last couple. Nearer the beginning it was nice to see that she put her dog first rather than staying in the nice apartment as most of these types of characters in films would go for the luxury as opposed to the dog.
It was interesting to see Sharpay talking to her family over webcam as she didn't want them to think she was a failure, therefore couldn't let them see her in her apartment. I like how this shows that she cares about them and it is good to see Sharpay adjust to life without her parents credit card there to pay for everything.
Overall I think this is an excellent film for girls. Being a Disney Channel Original Movie it is a great film for families and children. Well worth a watch.
