~SHAUN OF THE DEAD~
Shaun of the Dead is an outstanding UK produced film directed by Edgar Wright and produced by Nira Park. The plan was to make a romance comedy, but keep it to the horror aspect. The makers called it, ‘A romantic comedy, with zombies’. Production begun early 2003 and the film was released in late 2004.
Shaun (Simon Pegg) has a life in the gutter. His best friend Ed (Nick Frost) is a bad influence, and he has issues with his girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) and his mother Barbara (Penelope Wilton). He lives with Ed and Pete (Peter Serafinowicz), a lesser friend from college, who owns the house.
Shaun works the same dead-end job day in and day out, at the local electrical appliance store. All he has time for to do with Liz is go to the Winchester, the local pub, every night, followed by Ed and Liz’s friends David (Dylan Moran) and Dianne (Lucy Davis), how romantic!
When Liz really can’t stand it any longer, Shaun promises to take here to the place with all the fish. But he forgot one minor detail. To book the table! Unfortunately the place is full, so Liz dumps him. Just when his life can’t get any worse, the news starts talking about strange happenings. When the city is invaded by ~them~ (Don’t use the Z word, it’s ridiculous), Shaun must pick up his mum, his stepdad Phil (Bill Nighy), Liz (this isn’t about you and me, it’s about survival), David and Dianne, and take them to the safest and most secure place he knows, the Winchester!
Now where am I, oh yeah, writing a review for Ciao. There’s the storyline. Now I’ll give my opinion.
Shaun of the dead is an all time classic that will leave you off the edge of your seat. I have watched it countless times and find it funny every time. The zombies look very real, thanks to special contact lens they where and lots of make up! While being a horror film, it is really funny, IE. The characters, what they say and do etc.
The extra features on the DVD are endless. They include over 2 hours of behind-the-scenes and extras. The theme music is addictive and the storyline is 1,000,000 times better than outstanding. Doubled. Period. This film has an excellent value for money at around £10 to £15 at all good stores.
Defiantly recommended.
Thanks for reading :-) (and don’t forget to kill Philip!!!)
