Shifty is the excellent debut movie from director Eran Creevy. It follows a pivotal day and night in the life of the eponymous young London drug-dealer (Riz Ahmed) in Dudlowe (read: Harlow). The film opens with the arrival of Chris (Daniel Mays), Shifty's 'best mate' who mysteriously hoofed it to Manchester four years ago and has not been back since - till now. Shifty, now living with his brother Rez (Nitin Ganatra) after being thrown out by his parents, welcomes him with open arms. Shifty is a low budget (£100,000), lottery funded gritty drama focusing on 24 hours in the life of Shifty, a young muslim drug dealer in London. Without focusing too much on the plot, I will mention that the main triggers within this movie (of which there are a few) are the arrival back to town of Shifty's friend Chris after 4 years, Shifty's tenuous relationship with his family, a 'rival' dealer, and a drug crazed and desperate customer. This is a debut movie by director Eran Creevy, yet feels like a more experienced film.
