A clean cut, violent but moving villainous action flick.

Advantages: Watch it for the action and bad guys.
Disadvantages: Don't watch it for a toned down kung-fu movie - it's so much more!
After years of being the Shoguns 'head chopper', a samurai is betrayed by his master. The samurai leaves with his son but is continuously hunted.
Awesomely violent but with some touching moments Shogun Assassin is a real classic of the samurai genre (if it can be called a genre). Sure the blood looks very unrealistic but the action scenes are cool and the soundtrack is kick ass. The betrayed samurai is a bit fat but he makes a convincing killer (his stares alone could kill!) and the three straw hat wearing assassins sent after him are iconic (they have been copied a few times, Big Trouble in Little China and Final Fantasy 9).
Verdict - For anyone interested in sword play this is for you. Has some funny and touching moments (the little boy carrying water in his mouth for his wounded father) but the excellent action scenes and badass villains make the film what it is.
9/10
Summary: Kicks Kill Bill of it's perch with one swift swipe of the sword.
