Mark Wahlberg impressed me a lot in The Departed, until that film I had considered him an ok actor, good enough but not really a leading man in a major movie, let alone an action movie. His performance in that made Shooter a much more agreeable prospect. Shooter is a modern Arnie film, a mix of Raw Deal and Commando with a little bit of conspiracy thrown in. Wahlberg is a Bob Lee Swagger, a US Marine sniper who, in the opening scenes, is in action in Ethiopia. Sufficient time has now passed since 911 for Hollywood to start showing their irritation over the war in Iraq and Americans dodgy foreign policy with some serious films tackling the oil in the Middle East issue, Syriana and the later series of 24 really getting into the link between oil, terror and the C.I.A, and how America has to boss and then bend to the middle East to continue their greedy oil consumption. With 1.9 cars to every 1.7 humans that love of the automobile hasn't diminished. Over the Easter weekend I had more free time to watch films and just relax. I only ended up watching a few but of the ones I did watch I did enjoy. The second film that weekend that I decided to watch was 'Shooter'. I had briefly heard of this in the past but I had not really ever thought about going to see it at the cinema as I never really heard much feedback on it. This film was recommended to me last night and I decided to take his advice. Due to my nan going into hospital next week for a hip op, this was our last DVD day (I end college early), so I wanted to get something decent, so I choose Shooter. The Plot Bob Lee Swagger is an ex-marine gunnery sergeant who after his best friend is killed on a peace mission, was left by the American government to find his own way to safety.
