One of the best films for some time, SHREK!!
I had to see it twice, for several reasons, but mainly to watch the talking donkey or 'noble steed', or Eddie Murphy, depending on how you look at it.
Not just a film for children, but a hoot all the way through for adults as well. Much of the comedy is definitely tailored for the older child (18-45). The basic premise, if you don't know it by now, is that a green, ugly ogre, Shrek (voiced over by Mike Myers-though you'd never know it), has been invaded by the sum total of storytale characters, including Pinocchio, Snow White, etc. They have all been dis-placed by Lord Farquad. A talking donkey, (the excellent Eddie Murphy) attaches himself to the unwilling Shrek, and together they go to see Lord Farquad to see about the resettlement of the fairytale characters. When they meet Farquad, they are press ganged into finding princess Fiona, and rescuing her from the Dragon. The rest is fairly predictable. That's it basically, but, forget the story, there are some golden moments.
Mine:
The three pigs, Donkey: "Tomorrow I'm makin' Waffles!", "You want to warn someone before you crack one on them like that!", "I need a Hug!", titchy Lord Farquad, voiced over by John Lithgow, the gingerbread man, and the final karaoke scene! Totally hilarious! Total genius! The film is absolutely superb and a right scream.
Put the kids to bed, and put it on!

- 09/01/02 Thanks for comment, jacklover. I just wrote how I feel about the film. My immediate thoughts and memories. I think too many dooyooers, and others for that matter, expect everyone to write a top-notch essay that will win a booker prize. I have written some like that, but this was just a foolish rambling, a little glimpse on the film. With 134 ops on Shrek already, I could hardly add any more info on it! So, my op is just as I have said. Light-hearted nonsense, nothing more! ......................... feel better now. |
