The plot is ludicrous, at one point we are told that Devereaux, McGoohan's character, has gone to such lengths in the past as to kill 100 people aboard a plane to protect his reputation as an art dealer!?. Anyway, this doesn't really matter as 'Silver Streak' is huge fun regardless. Wilder is continually thrown off the train and has to keep getting back on it with various humorous, though not hilarious interludes. This is a review of the film. 'Silver Streak' stars Gene Wilder as mild mannered publisher George Caldwell travelling on a train [the Silver Streak] from Los Angeles to Chicago. Although he claims to want a quiet journey to catch up on some reading, it turns out to be anything but. First he meets a scantily clad Jill Clayburgh in the partitioned compartment to his. He then meets the lecherous Bill Sweet [a great performance from Ned Beatty] who describes the train as a 'cathouse on wheels!'.
