Despite having heard the title song countless number of times, and been aware of the film being shown on TV countless number of times, I had never actually watched it until the other day. The film was on TV and my wife and I put it on and watched it with our son as we sorted through our Xmassy stuff. However, we barely looked at our things as we discovered that it is actually highly watchable. Made in 1952, but set around the time when the switch between silent films and those with sound was being made many years earlier, Singin' In The Rain features the struggles of a theatre company to make the transition to sound, with voiceovers and comedic situations all ... You’ll have no argument from me if you said ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ is THE greatest movie musical ever made. I absolutely, positively, undeniably, unreservedly love this film; it combines music, dance and a really witty script to make the most magnificent of MGM’s golden era of musicals – had you guessed that I like the film yet? I fell in love with this film (and other musicals) when I was away from school after I having an accident; not being able to go outside and play was obviously driving my mother mental! – Luckily for her, ITV (or HTV in the Bristol) were having a musical month. Three times a week, they showed ... Read the complete review

I love the old Hollywood musicals and none more so than Singin' in the Rain starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. This lovely film has got it all - romance, comedy and lots of great singing and dancing along with a couple of downpours for good measure! I recently received the DVD of this film for my birthday and the other day we all sat down as a family to watch this great film. Even my four year old daughter really enjoyed it! Singin' in the Rain (made in 1952) steps back in time to the advent of 'talking films. Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen) are big silent movie stars. However, when the movie production company ... Read the complete review

Being a big fan of musicals many of my friends were stunned when I ashamedly revealed that I had never actually watched this musical classic! Firstly, I think I should set the background as to the reasons why I had never seen the film: 1. I never really like the song 'Singin in the Rain' (I'm sorry but I never really got it) 2. I didn't really see the fuss about the dance routine where Gene Kelly swings round the lampposts 3. I had no idea what the story was about However, putting my judgements aside I decided that any respectable musical fan should make the effort to see the classics before judging them. And so my ... ~~ Singin' in the Rain ~~ Anyone that reads my reviews know by now that I love the musicals, especially the old ones. Gene Kelly has always been in my top five of dancers and he stars in this film, he is also one of the directors and one of the two choreographers, so a very busy man. That classic scene where Gene Kelly dances along the street in the rain with his umbrella, singing the title song 'Singin' in the Rain' has been copied and replayed by many over the years, is still one of my favourite scenes. The main stars of the show are: - Gene Kelly playing Don Lockwood Debbie Reynolds playing Kathy Seldon Donald ... Read the complete review
