Advantages: More entertaining than the 1st film
Disadvantages: Predictable
Sister Act 2 - Back in the habit was released in 1993 and distributed by Touchstone Pictures. Although the sequel wasn't as popular as Sister Act, it did make nearly $100 million worldwide. Sister Act 2 is rated PG and runs for 103 minutes.
The Sisters from the first movie take a trip to visit Deloris in Las Vegas who now stars in her own musical about her previous adventures in the convent. The Sisters are now teachers at St Francis Academy, which also happens to be Deloris's old school. The school is in danger and the Sisters need Deloris's help.
Deloris soon finds herself back in the habit (hence the film name) and at her old school as a teacher as Sister Mary Clarence. As soon as she steps into her classroom and meets the music students, she wants to leave immediately. The students give Deloris hell and try everything to make her leave but she's determined to make this work. As soon as she learns that her class can actually sing, Deloris decides to turn them into a choir as she had so much success doing that before. One of the best singers in the class is some what of a troubled teenager who's mother doesn't want her to sing because she thinks it's a waste of time. Will Deloris be able to save the school and get her star singer back in the process?

I absolutely love musicals and this is one of my all time favourites. I'm surprised it didn't do as well as the first film because I thought it was a lot better and appealed to a wider audience. The characters alone make this more suitable for a teenage audience although I know a lot of adults that also love this film.
Whoopi Goldberg is fantastic as always. She's very able to play serious when she needs to but is much better at the funny lines. Deloris's character is really funny and a little eccentric at times. I love watching the ways Deloris has to deal with all the problems that get thrown at her when she doesn't think she can handle it.
Rita, played by Lauryn Hill was one of my favourite characters. She's very popular with her friends and is very quick when it comes to the insults and come backs. Lauryn Hill really made it easy to feel sorry for Rita and makes us hope that she gets her happy ending. She is also an amazing singer and she was perfect for this role that showcased her talents really well.
Of course, the music plays a major part in this film, just as much as it did in the first film. Although the music in Sister Act is great, the twist that Sister Act 2 put on gospel music was even better. The characters give the music a great hip hop kick to it and don't make it seem as boring and unfashionable for the audience. All the students are really good singers and for the most part, I think they really make the film what it is.
The story is interesting but pretty predictable most of the way through. The standard of acting and music is really high and the casting was perfect. Sister Act 2 is a great family film with laughs the whole way through.
Summary: Better than Sister Act
