... and scare the life out of you (or at least it did me). The plot is both believable and realistc, and well paced and thought through. There isn't a moment where it lets up, which is quite something if you think about it. Julia Roberts does a brilliant job as the battered wife, and there's certainly no faulting her performance; she gives it her all, and does a totally authentic pass at it too. I suppose the only thing I would say about this film is that it may be too close for home for the millions of people who hav...more

Premium Review Sleeping With The Enemy (DVD): Self-Defense is not murder (270 words)

Rating:

Bloomin' heck this film was intense when I first watched it. It stars Julia Roberts as a young wife with an abusive husband. In order to escape him she fakes her own death, but soon he comes after her intent on killing her for real. Well, this is certainly an edge of your seat thriller. There is something so real and authentic about the plot - domestic abuse, that it really does get under your skin and scare the life out of you (or at least it did me). The plot is both believable and realistc, and well paced and thought through. There isn't a moment where it lets up, which is quite something if you think about it. Premium Review If he can't have her no one can! (545 words)

Rating:

Sleeping With The Enemy is a psychological thriller based on a book released in 1987 of the same name. This stars Julia Roberts post Pretty Woman in one of her better but underrated roles of her career. Her husband's played by Patrick Bergin in what is probably his most notable role, he's also starred in small films like Robin Hood (1991) & Mountains On The Moon (1990). Sleeping With The Enemy is directed by Joseph Ruben, a relatively unknown director with no huge blockbusters under his belt, he tends to direct small fry films, having said that they do seem to be good films. He directed Money Train in 1995 starring Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson & ...  Read the complete review

"I Know your every thought Laura, nothing can keep me away. I can't live without you. I won't let you live without me."- Martin Burney 'Sleeping with the enemy'. I recently purchased this movie out of memory, I remember watching it while I was a kid on one of those days where you get the chance to have a good gripping film. One amongst many of Julia Robert's success movies. Plot: Laura Burney is a married woman, who has everything, a doting husband, a great house on the beach. Everyone expects her to be happy, except that her husband, Martin Burney, usually beats her and this has been going on for the past three years. Laura ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review What happens behind closed doors? (593 words)

Rating:

Introduction ========= Julia Robert's later work is better than the earlier films she appeared in. This is one of her earlier films, however the storyline is good and Patrick Bergin is excellent as the psycho husband. The Plot ====== From the outside Martin appears to be the perfect husband, kind, caring and thoughtful but like many things all is not as it seems and behind closed doors Martin becomes a different person; Martin becomes a violent and controlling man. After three years of marriage Laura has had enough and decides that her only way to escape from her evil husband is to fake her own death. Laura fakes her ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

I saw this film years ago when i was younger and i have to admit that i completely loved it. I must have watched it over thirty times in total and i think it is just fantastic. I dont normally like scary films but i will make an exception for this one as it is brilliant right from start to finish. If you have never seen Sleeping With The Enemy, it is a psychological thriller film that came to our screens in 1991. It was directed by Joseph Ruben and is based on the novel of the same name by Nancy Price. The film has some brilliant actors including Julia Roberts, Patrick Bergin and also Kevin Anderson. The running time of the film is 99 ...  Read the complete review
