... tone of a B-movie from the 1950s or 1960s. The film opens as a tycoon called Grant Grant (Michael Rooker) is infected by a parasitic monster that wants to take over Earth. The sleepy town of Wheelsy, South Carolina is uprooted, and strange things begin to happen: there are disappearances of both humans and animals, and Grant mutates into an obese, grotesque looking creature, while his wife Starla (Elizabeth Banks) watches in horror. The plague begins to spread throughout the town, turning the citizens into foaming z...more

Writer and Director James Gunn is a man who know what he likes, and what he likes is zombies. He proved he could handle the undead in his Dawn of the Dead remake and sticks with them in Slither. The basic plot is classic B Movie stuff, which is where Slither gets much of its inspiration from. A meteorite strikes a small town in rural America, little slithery worm bugs come out and take over human bodies, turning them into flesh eating zombies. Can local chief of police Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion) save them? Although Slither is superficially similar to the Gunn-penned Dawn of the Dead, it's different enough to work. Whereas Dawn was a hyped-up ...  Read the complete review

I am a big fan of horror movies but especially ones that know they are funny and don’t even try to hide it. I came across Slither quite a while ago now when it had just come out at the cinema. My fiancé is not a fan of horror’s at all and wouldn’t even believe me when I said it would be silly so I had to wait till last week to get it on DVD before I could give it a go. so me my sister Sam and my cousin Josh decided to sit down and watch it the Saturday just gone I have to say I found it hilarious and enjoyed every minute although on the whole the film was rubbish but in a good way if that makes any sense to you at all. ----- The ...  Read the complete review

Now, as unrealistic horror comedies go, this pretty much tops the list! But who am i to complain when i laughed my ass off throughout? Plot- An alien pod is released in a smallish American town, and when one of the townsfilk, Grant (Michael Rooker) is attacked and taken over by an alien host, things begin to take a turn for the worst as the alien invasion begins to take place. In the midst of the mayhem, the likeable good guy, Bill (Nathan Fillion) tries to save the woman of his dreams, Starla (Elizabeth Banks) Overall, i think this film succedeed with its comedy horror status, as although it is not scary whatsoever, it does have some pretty ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Well Worth The Watch (457 words)
by - written on 27/09/08 (Very useful, 34 readings)
Rating:

In the past I've always found that horror comedy films either works splendidly, and are side splittingly funny (like Idle Hands) or fail miserably (like The Bogus Witch Project) and end up being as funny as credit card debt. Thankfully I have to say that despite a few failings, Slither works well... very well. The film is based on slug-like alien parasites that crash on Earth from a meteor, and 'infect' an unlucky man before they attempt to take over the population of the town turning them into zombie hosts. Slither has a lot of positive things going for it. We are given a lot of great gore that will please the horror fan in us all, plus we're also given a ...  Read the complete review

Michael Rooker stars as Grant Grant (no, I'm not repeating myself), a rich guy from a small southern town who gets possessed by a parasitic worm from space. Even under the alien influence Grant still loves his wife, Starla (Elizabeth Banks), but although she's alarmed at his strange new behaviour, she has been disatisfied with her marriage long before the behavioural change and is seriously beginning to question the stability of her marriage to Grant. The sheriff in town (Nathan Fillion) has long been in love with Starla, in fact, since they were kids, and when he begins to investigate strange occurences in the area, he and Starla are brought ...  Read the complete review
