I watched this at the cinema after hearing mixed review from my friends and hearing so many great reviews in the press. This is not the sort of film that I would usually watch and I am so glad that I did as this was a film that was unlike any other film that I have seen in a long time and although it was a bit gruesome in places but it covers the truth and harsh realities of what really happens in Mumbai.

Danny Boyle directed this masterpiece of a film about a boy who's life experiences in an extremely hard upbringing lead him to go onto the TV show who wants to be a millionaire, where his knowledge is challenged as a 18 year old from the slums he should not know the answers to the questions he is being asked. Raising suspicion that he has been cheating.

Jamal played by Dev Patel and his older brother Salim are orphaned as children, raising themselves in various slums and doing pretty much anything to survive. All Jamal them makes his focus in life is to find Latika the girl he save and let down a number of times, she is the only girl for him but will he ever find her???

This film was really well written and the film starts with Jamal being interrogated by the police and as he tells the story of what has happened in his life in flashbacks which I think works really well, the film towards the end moves in to the present to give you a great ending.

The film is incredible and pulls various emotions in a film. I was laughing at parts especially when Jamal was covered in poo, but I was also covering my eyes in some parts as you were met with some of the brutal realities of life and some evil people that Jamal met on his travels.

The soundtrack is perfect and works well with the film and give it a great bollywood feel to it.

The actors are all very good and the children played great parts in the film too.

The low budget film deserves all of the Oscars that it won, compared to a lot of low budget films this script written by Simon Beaufoy was perfect and therefore did not need a huge budget as the storyline was perfect. I was mesmerized and at the end of the film was very happy with the outcome.

I cannot wait till the DVD comes out this will be a definite purchase.

Summary: great film
