Advantages: Visuals

Disadvantages: Far too predictable and unrealistic

Jamal is a street child who wins the Indian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?". The host notifies the police that Jamal won by cheating, which he did not. Jamal then has to explain how he knew the answers to the questions. The answers are all tied in to events in his life.

As a child Jamal lived on the streets with his brother, Salim, and became friends with Latika. After being taken in by a gang, the following story is one of love and betrayal with Jamal seeking to remove himself from the gang along with Latika and Salim's apparent jeaousy of Jamal and Latika's relationship accompanied with his desire to rise through the gang ranks.

Whilst visually pleasing, my enjoyment of the film ended there. Suspense is non-existent, the flashbacks are far too frequent thus they become annoying and it is ridiculously predictable. The sudden move from Hindi to English is odd and the use of English is poorly thought out. Not only does Jamal appear to become fluent overnight but Dev Patel's attempt at a convincing accent is laughable. Patel's acting is average at best.

I was bored throughout the film and once it had ended I was left with the knowledge that I would never get those 2 hours of my life back.

Summary: Mediocre at best
