Ok so before I even begin this review I feel I need to tell you that this is a film only review as I watched this film on the plane home from my Honeymoon and I do not own the DVD so have not watched any features. I'm not sure what I expected from the film but I certainly was surprised when watching it as it was crazy. I thought I was going to watch a nice little film but it was a horrible film really and a mad portrayal of a guy playing who wants to be a millionaire. I still loved it though and here is why.

So the film story goes a bit like this. For some of it you watch a guy called Jamal who is playing a show like who wants to be a millionaire in India and is taking his time with the questions to make sure he gets them right. The film then keeps switching to show you how he knows some of these answers and basically shows you what his life was like as a child and growing into the man he is on the TV show. On the way he makes friends, meets some wrong people and also falls for a girl that he can never have.

The actual film story on first impressions I thought sounded a bit boring as you just got told that it was a show about him playing the game and I didn't fancy it. Now I have watched the film I can tell you it is very clever and from the very first couple of minutes it throws you into Jamal's world straight away and keeps you there glued to the screen while his life plays out in front of you.

The main thing about the story though is it plays out very well indeed and it keeps your attention but while you are watching it you are thinking about it, marvelling at its beauty as it is shot lovely and then again thinking about if this is a real portrayal of what something like this would be like if it happened. I thought the story was just attention grabbing and I did expect it to be happy but I have to tell you that it is a sad story at times so prepare for that.

This film is shot so beautifully with very dulled out colours for a lot of it when it is telling you Jamal's past and then very vivid when it shows him playing the game. I thought this was very clever and it clearly divided the 2 things you were watching. Even when I felt sad at the film, it really grabs your heart strings as you are captivated by what's happening. It tells the story perfectly in my opinion and I think everybody will think this when watching it.

Character wise and they are fabulous. The film centres around Jamal who is played by the extremely talented Dev Patel who I loved in skins and loved him in this film. Jamal is a loveable character and you really feel for him in this film and love to follow his story. Dev plays him absolutely perfectly and this role was made for him. What a fab actor!

Then we have the beautiful Frieda Pinto who plays Latika in the film. Frieda is quite new to the acting scene but again she was perfect and captivates you every moment she is on the screen . Her and Patel are fantastic and make Jamal and Latika very loveable characters who you really want the best for.

So the film is great, the acting is great and the characters are really quite perfect so is there anything bad about Slumdog Millionaire. My answer to this would be only very mildly bad is the fact that alot of the scenes are quite uncomfortable viewing and because I was not prepared for them, I found them to be quite bad. I'm sure if I thought it was quite a nasty film I wouldn't have been too shocked but I have to warn people.

Still this film is fabulous and gets a full 5 stars from me.
