Advantages: Great fun for the little family members
Disadvantages: I am too old to get as much pleasure from it as the young 'uns
Disney knows how to make this kind of movie, they may be equaled , but I question whether they will ever be surpassed. Snow Buddies is suitable viewing for young children but only young children- that is to say that whilst many other similar movies can be enjoyed by adults as well, this one can't to the same degree, other than seeing the pleasure in the faces of the young ones watching it.
Snow Buddies is the story of how 5 puppies from different families in the same neighbourhood end up in the frosty arctic. Whilst worrying about how to get home, fate results in them taking part in a dogsled race across Alaska.
Budderball is the big guy, B Dawg the rapper, Rosebud is the brave one, Buddha is just a cool dude and Mudbud can only be described as a dirty little puppy. So there you have it 5 pups all with different personalities having an adventure. Needless to say, the puppies are all adorable and they can all talk and they unknowingly have an amusing sense of humour. You are not going to be laughing out loud, but a smile will cross your face from time to time.
In Alaska they meet up with a new doggy friend, Shasta, who aids them on their mission, which as he has experience in dogsledding is an extremely fortuitous friendship.
As with most stories for children, Snow Buddies has a moral behind it, in this case the moral being the benefit of teamwork and the power of following your dreams.
There are rumours that dogs were harmed in the making of this picture, I don't work for Disney, nor do I know anyone who does, so I don't know. I know rumours will always be out there and so I watched this movie with the deepest hope that there was no truth in those stories.
For me this is one of those movies that I have watched and don't ever plan to watch again. But then I am not five years old and I suspect if I was, I may well what to sit thru it again and again.
The movie runs for 84 mins and is certified U- it is denoted on the DVD - "Contains Mild Threat"- I have to say I have no clue as to what this threat was- but as that could just be me being oblivious- parents should be aware.
Watch it at Christmas- there isn't a Christmas theme- but there is a tremendous amount of snow and then more snow, and then more snow and then...............................
Summary: The Young Ones in your family will love it

- 11/09/09 I hadn't heard that rumour but I won't ever watch it now I have. Disgraceful. |

- 05/09/09 What a horrible thing, letting dogs suffer to make a movie! |

- 05/09/09 I hope animals aren't hurt either, but when you look at the stunts in any film I suppose accidents do happen.
Good review
