Advantages: A funny, witty and romantic film with some great actors and actresses.
Disadvantages: Kate Hudson did not play her part as well.
I purchased this film from Blockbuster from the pre-owned section for £7.00. It can be purchased from Amazon.co.uk for £9.99 and off play.com for £9.99.
The DVD has a 12 rating due to some sex references and some strong language.
It is 108 minutes long (1 hour and 48 minutes).
If you like chick flicks then this is your sort of film!
This main four characters are played by:
Kate Hudson as Darcy
Ginnifer Goodwin as Rachel
Colin Egglesfield as Dex
And John Krasinski as Ethan
Darcy, Rachel and Ethan grew up together, Darcy and Rachel are best friends and Ethan tended to be the tag along guy friend. But as the girls grow up despite staying close friends Rachel starts to see the differences between her and her best friend. Rachel is a sensible and caring friend whereas Darcy is the kind to backstab her best friend if it was to gain her something.
Rachel meets Dex at law school and the pair of them become great friends, as they seem to be getting closer, Darcy steps in and steals the limelight from her best friend, Rachel. Darcy then starts dating Dex and Rachel finds it hard to see the pair of them together but she never expressed to Dex how she felt about him before. As the lead up to Dex and Darcy's wedding approaches, Rachel talks to Ethan who cares deeply about Rachel (who has a secret crush on her) and Ethan persuades Rachel to do something about Dex and not to let him slip away. She can do something whilst Dex and Darcy are not married, but once married she will have lost her chance. What does Rachel do? Does love come over friendship? Or should she stand back and watch the love of her life and her best friend get married?
This is a funny, witty and romantic film. It shows how friendships can be tested by love. It struck me whilst watching this film that beauty comes from within. I started out watching the film thinking that both the two main actresses (Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin) were both extremely pretty and as the film went on as Kate in her character became self obsessed and selfish she became less attractive from the outside and Ginnifer became more attractive. I tried to explain this to my boyfriend who was obviously not seeing what I was seeing. But it did really make me think that the sort of people we are reflects on the outside as well.
I would certainly watch this film again and again, I had a few teary moments, it was one of those films that if you put yourself in the position of somebody being completely and utterly in love with somebody who you could not have that it would tear you apart in someway. Rachel (Ginnifer) found that she was not fulfilled in her job, in life and that she had reached 30 years old without anything she could really reflect back on. I have watched Ginnifer Goodwin in several films and I thought her acting had vastly improved in this film. Whereas Kate Hudson I found quite difficult to watch in this film with her character being so erratic and self obsessed (I have also watched many films with Kate Hudson in like How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days and I loved her in this but not so much in this film). The two main guys in this film (as previously mentioned) I have not heard of or watched in a film before, but they both played their parts very well.
Overall this is a great girly movie perfect for a girls night in or if you wanted to watch a film by yourself, I do not mean for this to sound sexist but as my boyfriend showed from his disinterest in the film it was not a guys film. And my boyfriend is pretty good usually at sitting through chick flicks.
Summary: A chick flick which I would certainly watch again!
