Advantages: Fun feel good film
Disadvantages: None
Son of Rambow is a 2007 British coming of age comedy, directed by Garth Jennings, whose previous debut film was The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005).
The film tells the story of two school children, Will Proudfoot (Bill Milner), as quiet boy from a strict religious sect, and Lee Carter (Will Poulter), the school's worst behaved pupil. The two form an unlikely friendship as they attempt to film a sequel to the 1982 action film Rambo: First Blood, for the Screen Test Young Film-Makers' Competition.
First and foremost this is a film about friendship. A warm and emotional story about two boys growing up in very different situations, but who's passion and drive to make something great pushes them together. Both Milner and Poulter are excellent throughout and really carry the film by themselves, which is a great achievement considering their ages and lack of real acting experience, really good performances from both.
It's not the funniest film in the world, you won't be laughing out loud all the way through, but it sure made me smile. This is the definition of a feel good film if I ever saw one. You really get sucked into this magical and crazy world these two boys create and it leaves you wanting more. A really great British film which will keep you entertained throughout and leave you feeling warm and happy. Highly recommended.
