Premium Review Sorority Row (DVD): One By One (761 words)

Rating:

It has been a while since I have properly had the time to sit down and actually watch a film with balancing university and my job but it was Halloween and I wanted to watch a 'scary' film so decided to have a look at the film Sorority Row. I had seen Rumer Willis on a lot of TV shows doing advertising for this film and out of curiosity even though it did look like a bit of a cheesy film I decided to stick it on anyway as there were no other scary films I was particularly interested in seeing. The film is about a group of Sorority sisters from the Theta Pi sorority. One of the girls Megan (Audrina Patridge) finds out her boyfriend Garrett is cheating on her, so ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sisters for life... and death (745 words)
by - written on 03/10/09 (Very useful, 77 readings)
Rating:

When sorority sisters, Theta Pi, find out that Garret has cheated on Megan, one of their sisters, they decide to get him back and teach him a lesson. When Megan begins to have a fit whilst making out with him, Garret panics and the girls take charge. Whilst trying to keep the smirks off their faces, they lead Garret to believe that he has accidentally killed Megan and they drive to a deserted area in order to 'dismember' the body. But to the horror of the girls, the prank goes horribly wrong, and Megan ends up dead for real. The sisters' motto of being sworn to trust, secrecy and solidarity no matter what, is tested to the extreme when they make the decision to bury ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sorority Row (DVD): When Students Go Bad... (1213 words)
by - written on 11/10/09 (Very useful, 45 readings)
Rating:

Although the "Trick or Treat" and "Prom Night" phenomena of American culture have crossed the Pond to our shores to be taken up with gusto by the younger generation, the institution of student fraternities or sororities thankfully remains where it is. Pretentiously named after two letters of the Greek alphabet, they're the college version of the Old School Tie in a country which supposedly left the rigid class system of the Old World behind. Our more enlightened young intelligentsia go for Hockey Socs, Runequest Chapters and other activity-based gatherings as the basis for their own social lives, and long may it continue. The Theta Pi ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Cack-handed horror (333 words)
by - written on 20/10/09 (Very useful, 11 readings)
Rating:

note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room There are enough remakes of GOOD horror films, but for some reason, filmmakers are also pulling fairly mediocre horrors out of the Asda bargain bins, like Black Christmas and The House on Sorority Row, and then remaking them crudely. Sorority Row is yet another in a long line of naff remakes of pretty naff films; it is thoroughly charmless and extremely tiresome. Mrs. Crenshaw (Carrie Fisher) runs a college sorority called Theta Pi, where our hapless protagonists, Jessica (Pipes), Cassidy (Evigan), Ellie (Willis), Claire (Chung), Chugs (Harshman) and Megan (Patridge) all live, throwing ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sorority Row (DVD): Sisters are doing it to themselves (358 words)
by - written on 04/10/09 (Very useful, 18 readings)
Rating:

Sorority Row is a pretty predictable horror and the plot is rather familiar as it can be linked back to many other similar films however despite itss limitations with regards to the plot I actually quite enjoyed this film and I'm not a big horror fan at the best of times. When a prank goes horribly wrong a group of University students who are all members of the same sorority house find themselves being hunted by a hooded killer, not exactly original I now but this is a film about loyalties and belief in a code of looking after your sorority sisters and keeping secrets buried. The prank was supposed to be on the odious Garret who had cheated on one of the ...  Read the complete review
