------------------Plot & My Thoughts-------------
Nashawn Wade gets his ass stuck in an airplane toilet and his dog gets sucked through the engine he sues the company and receives 100 million dollars. After receiving the money he decides to start his own airline. He calls the the airline Nashawn Wade Airlines for short N.W.A which is sort of a reference to the rap group of the same name. The airline he starts up is aimed at African American and everything about it is for the comfort of them. An example is calling the terminal Malcolm X which has a basketball court etc Also having a hip hop club on board and all black staff. The movie follows Nashawn on his first flight as an airline owner and is filled with many disasters including not having a qualified or trained pilot. The movie also contains some love elements with his x girlfriend coming back engaged on his flight.
In all honesty the plot for this movie is quite weak and apart from his starting an airline and trying to get through his first flight safety there isn't really much else. The movie is really like a big party on a bunch of laughs on a plane really. The movie contains lots of comedy but it is all quite stereotypical but still managed to get me to laugh.
On the plane it is prominently black passengers so when a white family come aboard along with an Asian man they are portrayed very stereotypical to each race. The white family are clean cut and look like they have money. The Asian man is portrayed to look like a terrorist with a turban and a big suitcase. The funny thing about this is not the way they are portrayed when they first board the plane but the way they transform throughout the flight. The white family turn all ghetto and the son starts to rap, the wife starts flirty with all the black men, the daughter goes to the club starts dancing and turns more ghetto and street and the dad just stays the same and is almost baffled about how much his family have go wild on the flight(in a funny way).
The other thing I found a little stereotypical about the movie was that the sections on the plane where clearly divided unlike a real plane. The lower class was really lower class and had no TV's or even proper food. They served bargain buckets of chicken and where told to take one piece and pass it on. I found it quite funny to be fair because I could just imagine if there was a real ghetto plain this is how it would be lol. In first class it was top quality and with high class people and it could clearly be defined that it is first class. On top of that there was only about 10 people in first class whereas on a real plane there is a whole lot more. My guess is that the stereotypical fact to this first class was that not alot of black people make it out of the ghetto and are able to afford first class which is abit stereotypical and not so much true these days.
The whole movie is really based around stereotypes but that is really what made most of the movie funny. I do think that some of the things they did may come along a little offensive to races which is not really good.
---------Cast, Setting & Wardrobe----------
The cast has some of the best black actors out there for comedy such as Mo'nique and John Witherspoon they are truly funny as usual in this movie. John plays a Blind man and if you ask me he looks anything from blind in this movie. It's funny how they have made him blind and yet all his hands ever seem to find are womens private body parts. The way his role was portrayed was as if he was pretending to be blind which was quite funny.
The setting being on a plane was quite different because although there have been a few movies on planes not this sort of movie has been done on a plane before not that I know of. I think that along with the setting the costumes used for this movie where quite good. I like the way they spiced thing up for the airline workers and made them all look hot because it adds to the sort of movie it is.
-----------Overall Opinion-----------
Overall I think this movie was quite funny and I enjoyed it but I must say it's not for everyone. I didn't like some of the stereotypical aspects of the movie because they can come across a little offensive if taken out of context.
The movie struggled to break even at the box office when it was released but my theory for this is the people that it's aimed at are probably not likely to go cinema and watch it and would prefer to download it because it's mainly people from the ghetto or on lower incomes that would have been appealed to this when it was released.
"I was asked at premiere's to sign bootleg copies of the movie" quoted by Kevin Hart who stars in the more as Nashawn
I recommend this movie for those who like urban/rap/ghetto comedies because this gave me a few laughs.
