Advantages: Crude, very funny
Disadvantages: Not for the easily offended
In case anyone doesn't know about it yet, South Park is about four boys (Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny) as they go about their lives in the little town of South Park, bumping into colorful characters and having wacky adventures.
The first volume has four episodes from the very first season in 1997, "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe," "Volcano," "Weight Gain 4000," and "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride". I think Trey Parker and Matt Stone could never have imagined how well received their show would be and that it would run for 12 seasons (and counting). Or, in some cases, badly received, but that just drove more people to see it.
This show is everything shows like The Simpsons aren't. It's crude, badly animated (which I think is part of it's charm) full of bleeped swear words and is pretty much offensive to every group of people. But Matt & Trey can do social commentary like no-one else, and they can do it with fart jokes too, although those kinds of episodes are better illustrated in later seasons. But it has reflection as well, with the boys remarking on what they've learned at the end of the episode, before ripping on Cartman for being fat.
There's not much in the way of extras, just standard things like chapter search a series one trailer, the highlight being the exclusive introductions, which Matt & Trey do themselves in their own inimitable brand of humor.
Overall this is a good start to a very very good show, but be warned, it is not one for the easily offended.
Summary: A great start for a great show!
