Southern Comfort is not just the name of the most effeminate of whiskeys (for true men like their's burning and horrible tasting) it's also a 1981 film by Walter Hill director of The Warriors. The film follows a small squad of Louisiana National Guard on a training exercise through the Louisiana swamp lands - the bayou. It's a friendly crew of men all casual about their duty and not taking the exercise completely seriously. This movie was made in 1981 and like a good wine; it has aged very well. Walter Hill who also was responsible for The Long Riders, 48 Hours, The Warriors, Extreme Prejudice, Red Heat and Last Man Standing directed it. The film is about the Louisiana state National Guard who are on a training exercise deep in the woods of Louisiana. The NG(National Guard) are not allowed to carry live ammo with them as it's just a training exercise and they dont expect anything to happen. This is until one soldier played by Fred Ward(Tremors) decides to shoot at some Hillbillies for a joke!. The Hillbillies natural reaction is to shoot back, but when he shoots back he takes a soldiers head with him. The film then turns into a game of cat and mouse as the NG try to ...
