Advantages: Great action film
Disadvantages: None
Spider Man is the first of the three movies so far made to star Tobey Maguire in the dual role of the super hero and Peter Parker his normal persona and it is also the best of the three by far.
I was surprised when it was announced that Maguire was to play the roles he does not look that big on screen however in fact he is perfect for the role as he is able to vsually represent the role of Parker who is often the victim of bullying and is a bit of a nerd who has a crush on his next door neighbour AJ who is played by Kirsten Dunst.
For me the real star of this film though is William Defoe, a successful business man and scientist and faced with financial ruin he carries out a high risk experiemnt on himsef that turns him in to an evil super villain called the Green Goblin a persona he switches back and forth from and after Parker suffers his own accident that gives him super powers of a spidey style the two are drawn togther also linked by the fact that Defoe son is best friends with Peter and dating AJ.
The action scenes in this film are excellent and I love the special effects using the New York skyline as a back drop. When you think about it then it is just as well Spiderman lived in New York as he would be stuffed if he lived in an English town as he would get splatted trying to swing from our low buildings.
The plot is fairly predictable but it works well in the overall structure of the film which is set at the right ace with some lighter moments mixed in with the actions scenes.
Summary: Comic book super hero time
