Not our favourite Spongebob DVD but good all the same

I have always been a huge fan of Spongebob Squarepants ever since I was a teen. I only had the Spongebob movie on DVD and decided to watch it with my daughter one day and it turns out she loves him just as much as I do so when I saw a bundle of Spongebob DVD's for sale on facebook I snapped them up so me and my daughter can enjoy them together.

One of the DVD's that came in the bundle was Whale of a birthday. It is available to purchase from Amazon new for £5 and used copies are slightly cheaper. The rating is U. The DVD features seven episodes of Spongebob Squarepants from season seven.

The title of the DVD comes from the name of the first episode that is shown. The seven episodes are Whale of a birthday, Chimps ahoy, All that glitters, Once bitten, Bummer vacation, Wigstruck and That's no lady. Each episode is around 10-15 minutes long and feature Spongebob and his friends going on their undersea adventures. There are also a couple of extra's with the DVD, there are a couple of preview clips of other Nickelodeon releases and a DVD-ROM game, I can't comment on the extras as I haven't looked at them but they are there if you want them.

The thing I like most about this (and our other Spongebob) DVD is that the episodes begin with the name of each one, then they show the episode and then instead of running the closing credits it runs straight onto the next episode name. The end credits can still be watched as they run them for each episode after all of the episodes have been shown; it's just an easier way to watch the episodes without having to skip through name after name.

If you've never heard of Spongebob, where have you been? He's a bright yellow sponge that lives in a pineapple with a best friend called Patrick Star. There are quite a few regular characters that feature in different episodes. Whale of a birthday, for example, is an episode about the birthday of Pearl, Spongebob's bosses daughter, who will be celebrating her 16th birthday but doesn't want her dad to skimp on the party. Spongebob follows her around using My Krab's credit card to secretly purchase a load of presents on behalf of her dad. On the day of her birthday, Pearl realises that despite pleading with her dad, he still tries to cut corners using Squidward as the band, a cake made out of cardboard and a sculpture of her made out of Krabby patties. Will she get everything she wants after all?

The DVD is engaging and me and my three year old daughter enjoy watching it. It isn't our favourite out of the Spongebob DVD's but it's one we like to watch. I'd definitely recommend the DVD for any Spongebob fan
