Advantages: Funny, Brilliant film

Disadvantages: None

Carman (Alexa Vega) and Juni (Daryl Sabara) Cortez are back. The OSS now has it's own Spy Kids division and Carman and Juni are spy kids one and two. However they have competition from two brats called Gary (Matthew O'Leary) and Gerti (Emily Osment) Giggles , one which Carman fancies even though he is horrible and the other who is looks and acts like the prototype of a spoilt know it all brat. The film opens with the four competing to save the president's daughter (Taylor Momsen) who has climbed on top of a theme park ride to get her always busy fathers attention. Of course Gary and Gerti get all the credit. That night the new president of the OSS is going to be announced and there is a big dinner. There are two potential runners in the race, Gregorio Cortez (Antonio Banderas) and Donnagon Giggles (Mike Judge), it seems that the feud between the Giggles and the Cortez's doesn't just lie with the children.

Gregorio is on the verge of winning when suspicious Donnagon is announced the winner. Everyone makes a toast and sudden everyone is knocked out because the drinks have been drugged. This allows the waiters to steal the secret device, the Transmooker which can knock out anything electrical and is a threat to the world. Carman and Juni decide to go and get it back and are lead to an island which seemingly doesn't exist. When they arrive they find that a mad scientist called Romero(Steve Buscemi) lives there and is using the device to make his island invisible to radar etc. They find out he is on the island because he wants to make mini zoos for kids but his experiments went wrong and now the island is swarming with beasts. Carman and Juni have to destroy the device, brave the monsters on the island and their rivals before it's too late. Unbeknown to them they are being tracked by their mother, Ingrid (Carla Gugino), their dad Gregorio and their grandparents (Ricardo Montalban,Holland Taylor).

I have just seen the preview
of Spy Kids 2 and loved it. I liked the first Spy Kids and found it highly entertaining and funny, I liked the story because it had Carman and Juni coming to terms with their parents job and also learning how to be spies. The second has them as experienced spies but because they don't have their gadgets they have to learn how to use their heads. It also has the added element of them having to deal with rivals which I liked. Like the first there is lots of gadgets, fighting, action and humour. I actually thought this film was funnier than the first one and I laughed quite a few times. The things that I thought was funny was Romero who is hilarious. He is scared to go outside and his dream of making zoo's small enough to fit in kids rooms, which he calls Romero's Zoo and later Romero's Zoo too is funny. I also thought Antonio Banderas was really funny in this because his character Gregorio is often quite childish and he plays this up well.

A lot of the characters return from the first and even Machete (Rodriguez regular Danny Trejo) Felix (Another Rodriguez regular Cheech Marin) and Fegan Floop (Alan Cumming). I liked this and I also liked the new characters like the Giggles family and the Grandparents who seem to be the root of the Ingrid and Gregorio's over protectiveness. All the actors are brilliant and I especially thought that Steve Buscemi, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara and Antonio Banderas were good.

Robert Rodriguez again has created another brilliant family film that everyone can enjoy, although you wouldn't have guessed it because his earlier films include blood soaked Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn. The film itself us full of childlike energy making it a joy to watch. Rodriguez did more in this film than just write and direct, he also produced was the director of photographer, co wrote songs for the film edited it and did other things too. Rodriguez has put a lot of imagination into the film especially seen in the s
py gadgets and also has filled the screen with rich colours and landscapes and settings. A lot of the film is set on the island with caves, mountains and big open spaces the opening is set in the theme park with such extreme rides it would make any roller coaster junkie faint.

I would recommend this to everyone especially fans of the film so go and see spy kids 2 it's a film that both kids and adults can enjoy. Also a little hint, stay after the credits .

P.S The Lord of the Rings reference was kickass.
