Advantages: good stories and great cast

Disadvantages: odd slow story in first season

This was the third series for Star Trek and had a lot to live up to. The original series in the 60's had become a cult show and had even made it to the big screen for a few outings. Then in 1987 the creator of Star Trek Gene Roddenberry brought us The Next Generations and had become a big hit.

Deep Space Nine or DS9 as fans called it was created by Rick Berman and Michael Piller after the death of Gene Roddenberry and many fans were not to keen on the idea of someone else making a Star Trek show.

Unlike other Star Trek shows this one didn't feature a Star ship but instead was based on a Space Station orbiting the planet of Bajor.
The Station was an old Cardassien outpost that the federation took over when the cardassiens left. When the federation took over the station they found that there was a stable worm hole leading to the gamma Quadrant near to Bajor, so they moved the station close to the wormhole to stop anyone else controlling it?

The first series is sometimes slow and you wonder where the series is going but if you like Star Trek and have not seen this then give it a chance. It is one of those shows that you need to see them all in the correct order as after the first series there is a continuing story. In fact the last series they made was one long story.
