Star Trek (Star Trek XI (DVD))
Member Name: goldenbat666
Advantages: Visually stunning graphics and fantastic lead actors Disadvantages: Inconsistent plot Kirk is a rebellious son of a courageous captain who gave his life trying to save his Starship Kelvin. He ends up at Starfleet Academy where he clashes with a variety of people due to hisi cheeky, arrogant attitude. But soon an evil captain with a destructive agenda poses danger on the galaxy. The conflicting characters must unite to fight against this seemingly unbeatable bad guy. "Star Trek" is receiving rave reviews, with some critics awarding this 5 stars and calling it one of the best franchise reboots. But I do not quite see what all the fuss is about. The plot does not quite click - the events jump from places to places, sometimes too quickly, sometimes too slowly. Some of the emotional scenes are not handled too well by the actors and there are moments when the pace could have picked up. However there are aspects that make this a promising stepping stone for the many sequels to come. The computer graphics are fantastic as expected - because of this, the action sequences feel a whole lot more kinetic and exhilarating. The two main characters are perfect. Their completely different natures, both portrayed brilliantly by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, add plenty of humour to the film that helps during the gloomy period of the film. Summary: Not as good as some people will have you believe - but this is a fine place to start a new franchise |
