The Next Generation is an amazing series spanning 7 seasons. Many Trekkies agreed the The Next Generation (TNG) is the best Star Trek series ever. This first installment is a nice start and introduction to the characters, but it is not the finnished article. For someone wanting to test the waters of TNG I would recommend looking at a few episodes from laters seasons (6 is my favourite). For those wanting to watch the whole series this is an essential starting point and not a bad one at all. The story lines are sometimes closer to the original Star Trek series (the one with Captain Kurk), with big monsters on very colourful and basic studio sets. The ... Read the complete review

As a big fan of star trek (without being a trekkie) for me this was a must have on DVD. This first season in my opinion did a very good job of making the transition from the old original star trek series to the new generation. This was no easy challenge considering the enormous popularity of the franchise, and the need to bring it into modern times, and away from the outdated 60s. There are a lot of very good episodes in this series, especially for me, an episode titled, "11001001", and we are introduced to many of the characters that we will grow to love over the seven seasons, including some characters who make excellent guest appearances ... The first season of most long-running shows will end up looking a little naïve and discordant in hindsight, and the freshman year of Star Trek’s first television sequel offends more than most in this regard. The new series would take roughly three years to become fully embraced by fans of the original series, and watching these first twenty-six episodes it’s fairly obvious why. Gene Roddenberry’s vision of the 24th century is noble and exciting, and sets the scene perfectly for infinite exploration of the human and alien condition, yet this opportunity is somehow wasted almost entirely. At its worst, The Next Generation sees a crew of wooden caricatures in ... Read the complete review

I am returning to my roots - Star Trek opinions. I am not a great lover of The Next Generation but the DVD release of Season One has really changed my mind. "These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise." Thankfully, this is a good time to be a fan. Star Trek is FINALLY feeling fresh and new again. The latest series, Enterprise, is at last based on our favorite starship again... but at a time when humans are just beginning to reach for the stars. As a result, that sense of optimism and idealism - the the sheer joy of exploration - is back on form, making the show the most enjoyable Trek in a while. A new feature film, Star Trek: Nemesis, ... ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ is THE television series of my youth. There was a time when I knew the names and synopses of all the episodes in order (and at the time, this was something of which I was proud — ye gods). As a teenager I edited a Star Trek fanzine (for a local fan club whose members were mostly adults, who gave me the job since I was about the only member they had with both computer literacy and spare time) and even wore a Starfleet uniform to pubs (in which I was underage). Eventually, of course, the obsession wore off, probably due to a combination of growing up, getting a life, and how truly dire ‘Star Trek: ... Read the complete review
