Most notable for introducing Star Trek's most famous enemies the Klingons at a surprisingly late point in the first season, 'Errand of Mercy' is particularly interesting for its presentation of a militaristic Starfleet of the sort previously seen in 'Balance of Terror,' and rarely again due to Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's pacifistic view of his utopia. Fundamentally a cheaper equivalent of the previously-introduced Romulans, the Klingons here are much different from those in the later Trek canon, being more stereotypically villainous and their alien make-up consisting only of shiny vests.
