Obseesion/ Immunity Syndrome are two episodes that stray away the the man in a suit polava instead presenting two very different enemies to the viewer. The first of these obsession has a particularly intense performance from Shatner, who normally plays the ultra suave Starfleet captain. The basic plot relvoles around Kirk becomming hell bent on destroying a murderous entity they came across on the planet they were exploring, even ignoring Starfleet orders. As it turns out Kirk has met it before and he was the only survivor from the previous encounter. The two episodes collected on its twenty-fourth DVD volume see the original Star Trek series becoming curiously complex in its choice of alien adversaries, with episodes based around a vampire cloud creature and an immense space amoeba that consumes starships. 'Obsession' is particularly interesting as an exploration of Captain Kirk's psychology, as he is forced to confront the creature that he first encountered as a younger man, with all the inevitable vengeance that enlightened Starfleet officers are supposed to pretend they never experience.
