The ultimate sci-fi epic began in 1977, with the release of a little film called Star Wars. Written and directed by George Lucas, a little known movie maker, who had had moderate success with American Graffiti and a student film called THX-1138 previously, this new film would go on to change the movie world forever. The story is a very simple tale of good versus evil, set a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is a simple farmboy, who dreams of one day becoming a star pilot, but is stuck working for his uncle on a dusty desert planet. A chance droid purchase leads him to meet C-3PO and R2-D2, two robots, one of whom ... Read the complete review

Do I feel worthy to review this Cinematic Giant? Well lets take a stab and wait for the flack. I saw this film in 1977 when it first came out and I was 12. My dad took us to the local Odeon cinema to see the mid afternoon showing and when we got there the queue was round the cinema. We queued, but did not get in. I cried my eyes out till my dad promised to take us back that evening. We did go back and we got in. I remember watching that film and feeling mesmerised and being so upset when it got to the end. I came out of the cinema on such a high and it took me hours to get to sleep that night because I could not stop thinking about the film. I don't ... Read the complete review

I have been toying with the idea of reviewing Star Wars since I joined Dooyoo and I have resisted for some time, based on the fact that it is one of my favourite films ever and I could find myself waffling on the subject for ages. Anyway, I decided to tackle it today. Why is it one of my favourite films? I think it is one of the first films I ever saw and definitely one of the first which made an impression on me. I collected the toys, I watched it repeatedly and I suspect I wanted to be Luke Skywalker. The plot: Most people probably know the plot, but a quick summary; Luke Skywalker is a bored farm worker who becomes involved ... Read the complete review

Background information on the Star Wars trilogy: Since its unforgettable premiere in 1979, STAR WARS has gone onto become the biggest and greatest feature film phenomena of modern times. Few films before and after have captured the imagination of the wider public while still continuing to inspire a faithful following. Produced and directed b George Lucas, STAR WARS had the goal of creating a new mythology of the space age. It finally got the green light with Twentieth Century Fox along with a budget of just US $9.5 million. The rest, they say, is history. To date, STAR WARS has seen more than one billion people world-wide and has taken ... Read the complete review

Well, what can a humble Dooyooer such as myself say about one of the most seminal and discussed science-fiction films ever that hasn't already been said? How about 'it's crap'? No, that would be a lie. How about 'it's great'? Less original but more truthful. I'll stick with that. The evil Galactic Empire is trying to tighten its stranglehold on the galaxy by building the ultimate weapon - a spacestation with firepower capable of destroying a planet in one shot (known as the Death Star). The Rebel Alliance, struggling to bring down the Empire, manages to get hold of detailed plans of the Death Star but the ship transporting them ... Read the complete review
